About

I graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Biomedical Engineering. After working as an engineer for several years, I decided to switch careers and pursue a career in dentistry. I am currently a practicing dentist in the DeKalb/Sycamore area of Illinois.

My interest in photography began in 1998 when I started working as a technology consultant for Accenture and I had to travel to many client locations. I wanted to take photographs of the cities I visited. So, I enrolled in a photography course at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. There I learned black and white photography and how to work in a traditional darkroom. However, I quickly learned architecture, abstract and street photography were not my forte.

On a road trip to drop my sister to San Francisco, I decided to try my hand at color slide film. Armed with rolls of Fuji Provia and my Canon Elan IIe, we made the three day trek, stopping in Salt Lake City, Lake Tahoe and then exploring San Francisco and the Pacific Coast down to Carmel. After getting the slide film back from the lab, I realized that the grand landscape was my calling.

My main influences are Ansel Adams, Galen Rowell, and David Muench. I taught myself photography through lots of reading especially, Outdoor Photographer and EOS Magazine. Then as internet became more prevalent, Luminous Landscape and the message boards at Fred Miranda and DPReview became my goto places to learn.

I hope you enjoy these photographs a much as I did getting to the location and capturing that fleeting moment in time.
